Job Summary
This position will provide technical support in the areas of exposure assessment, toxicology, and
environmental health risk assessment related to health guidance for water contaminants. This work
includes research, evaluation, interpretation, and other activities in support of the adoption of
state- wide health-based limits or values for toxic substances in water or other media so that the
risk management decisions, policies, and practices of state agencies are scientifically sound and
protective of public health.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Physical, Chemical, Biological or Health Sciences.
AND
Three years of professional analytical research or planning experience in a comprehensive program
of study in water research, epidemiology or toxicology. Experience to include all aspects of
studies or projects (e.g., planning, data collection and field work, analysis, report writing) and involve a
variety of problems in the area. A Master of Public Health, or Master of Science in Environmental Health, Environmental Science or Studies, Environmental Policy, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Epidemiology, Toxicology or Risk
Assessment will substitute for one year of professional experience.

A PhD in one of the above will substitute for two years of professional experience.
Technical knowledge and skills in exposure assessment, environmental science and public health.
Statistical principles are also needed for the position.

Preferred Qualifications:
A PhD in Toxicology, Environmental Health, Public Health, or other relevant field and experience with chemical risk assessment.
Experience in data management and statistics.
An understanding of how toxicology and exposure data can be used to assess risks to humans.
The ability to develop research plans and identify the necessary partnerships, funding, or
contracts needed to complete work.
Knowledge of procedures involved in planning, executing, evaluating and reporting controlled
experimental research in the toxicological sciences.
Successful participation of the State of Minnesota Star of the North Fellowship program.

Job Summary

Master’s degree in an environmental health sciences field. Degree must include specialization in
one of the following: Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Human or Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Biology, Environmental Chemistry.
AND
Three years of research experience working in the field of biological sciences, public health, and
environmental health hazards present in the environment.

PhD in one of the above areas will substitute for one year of professional experience.

Qualitative and quantitative analysis skills sufficient to evaluate program information and reports
and provide analysis findings.

Understanding of risk assessment and the environmental hazards that impact public health.

Preferred Qualifications:
A PhD in Environmental Health, Human or Environmental Toxicology, Environmental Biology, or
Environmental Chemistry, and experience with chemical risk assessment.
Ability to organize and write complex technical reports and research papers.
Technical knowledge and skills in exposure assessment and environmental science.
Quantitative and computer skills and knowledge of statistical principles.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of federal, state, and local community agencies and community organizations.
Successful participation of the State of Minnesota Star of the North Fellowship program.
