Glossary of Risk Analysis Terms

This glossary is based principally on work done for the Society a number of years ago by the Committee for Definitions, chaired by Lawrence B. Gratt. The Society has never officially adopted them and does not necessarily endorse them. Therefore, no response will be provided for any complaints.

Submitting a Term

However, if you wish to provide an alternative definition for any of the terms, or wish to suggest an additional listing, you may submit them to the Communications Committee. At our sole discretion, we will add legitimate listings, attributed to the contributor. If a definition is not specifically attributed to a group or an individual, it is attributable to the Committee for Definitions. A few of the Committee's definitions (e.g., those containing formulas) have been modified because of limitations in on-line publishing.
