Background
The Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) was
founded in 1981 by a group of individuals representing many different
disciplines who recognized the need for an interdisciplinary society, with
international scope, to address emerging issues in risk analysis, management,
and policy. The Southern California Chapter of the Society for Risk Analysis
(SCSRA) was formed in 1985 to address the
unique needs of the area. SCSRA
members come from a
variety of backgrounds: private industry, regulatory agencies, academia, and
consultants.
MISSION
STATEMENT
The Southern California Society for Risk
Analysis mission is to promote technical exchange among individuals who work
in the field of Risk Assessment and to build bridges with other professional
organization and educational institution.
The purpose of the
chapter is to:
 | provide a public forum for the discussion of risk analysis and risk
management issues at local and regional as well as national levels; |
 | foster the advancement and understanding of new methodologies and
technology in the practice of risk analysis; |
 | serve as a resource for the local scientific, regulatory, and
industrial/municipal community; |
 | represent the interests and goals of SRA in a regional setting; |
 | enhance communication between the national organization and its
membership; |
 |
develop membership within the SRA at a local or regional level.

 | bring together individuals from diverse disciplines and from
different countries and provides them opportunities to exchange information,
ideas and methodologies for risk analysis and risk problem-solving;

 | foster understanding and professional collaboration among
individuals and organizations for the purpose of contributing to risk
analysis and risk problem-solving; |
 | facilitate the dissemination of knowledge about risk and risk
methods and their applications; |
 | encourage applications of risk analysis methods; |
 | promote advancement of the state-of-the-art in research and
education on risk analysis; and |
 |
provide services to its members to assist them in developing their careers
in risk analysis. |
What do we do?
Typically, the SCSRA holds
at least three to
four dinner meetings, one technical workshop, and an Annual Meeting in
May at UCLA.
