Abt Associates seeks a qualified Human Health Toxicologist at the Senior Analyst level to support the Division of Health and Environment.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

The successful candidate(s) will become part of an interdisciplinary team conducting novel and required research in support of national-level environmental programs. Projects encompass support of various environmental regulations, toxicology profiles, risk assessment, exposure assessment/modeling, and methods development in these areas
The successful candidate will conduct research, literature reviews, including systematic reviews, and statistical and other quantitative analyses including dose-response modeling to support the above-mentioned projects. They will also contribute to the preparation of reports, memos, options papers, web sites, presentations, and other materials for use by senior environmental managers
Lead project management teams and perform/manage a variety of research analysis tasks
May provide training and technical supervision to less experienced staff
Review collected data and analyses using standard practices and techniques in the field(s) of specialization
Devise methods and lead the design computer modeling, stimulation or simple to moderately complex forecasting using standard software packages
Apply quantitative and/or qualitative analysis techniques and methods
Independently, work on assignments that are complex under indirect supervision where there is latitude for independent action and decision-making
Assume the lead role in portions of a large, moderately complex project(s) and/or proposals
May perform multiple routines to moderately complex tasks
Apply general and specialized knowledge of principles, concepts and business operations in the field(s) of specialization. Using independent judgement and discretion apply standard and non-standard quantitative and/or qualitative methods and techniques
Draft and manage the implementation of procedures for data collection, manipulation and analysis during all project phases. May participate in the establishment of new or revised systems, policies or methods
Exercise initiative to resolve complex non-routine matters. Implement and manage project schedules, plans, goals and budgets under the indirect supervision of more senior staff. Independently analyze issues to reconcile and resolve problems. Apply knowledge and experience of general operations, systems, and project procedures
May assume a role in proposal efforts by preparing drafts of sections
Establish an industry presence as a subject-matter expert by publishing in peer-reviewed journals and/or by presenting at annual conferences and meetings
Identify and recruit substantive peers and actively participate in the development of less senior staff
Review project reports and findings. Review applications, data sets and models for anomalies to ensure accuracy

Preferred Skills / Prerequisites

The preferred candidate will have an outstanding academic record and work experience in the field. Coursework in toxicology, risk assessment, quantitative methods, epidemiology, biology, physiology, physical and/or environmental sciences is desirable
Excellent oral communication, writing, and analytical skills are essential
Experience with PBPK models, dose-response modeling including benchmark dose software, NHANES data analysis and R programming preferred. Must have proven technical expertise
Experience in business development, client relationship management and supervision/staff development is preferred

Minimum Qualifications

BA with 6 - 8 years of experience OR MA/MBA (3) years of experience OR PhD (Entry Level) OR the equivalent combination of education and experience
