Dr. Bowles is an internationally recognized pioneer and leader in dam safety risk assessment and management for almost 40 years. He has completed or reviewed risk assessments for more than 900 dams worldwide. His experience includes quantitative/screening risk analyses for dams and levees, issue evaluation studies, existing condition risk assessments, dam safety modification studies, periodic assessments, evaluation of risk reduction benefits and tolerability of risk, portfolio risk assessments, life-loss estimation, dam breach modeling, and preparing risk reports. He has led software development for event tree analysis (DAMRAE) and LifeSim for USACE and portfolio risk management for a UK dam owner. He is highly experienced with development event tree and fault tree risk models including uncertainty analysis. He has served as Senior Advisor on risk methodology and policy development for dam safety management for many private and government dam owners and regulators in many countries
