The theme of the 2013 meeting at Chuo University, Tokyo, was “Rebuilding Risk Literacy – Upon the Experience of 3.11.”
The meeting took place on November 15-17, 2013, and was chaired by Toshinari Nagasaka, past president of SRA-Japan. “3.11” refers to the March 11, 2011, Great East Japan Earthquake, which (together with the associated tsunami) caused extensive damage, including the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. The earthquake has been blamed for almost 21,000 deaths (see 2011 earthquake death statistics from the USGS here).
In total, 68 oral presentations and 17 posters were presented, and about 150 members participated.
SRA-Japan’s next General Business meeting and Annual Symposium will be held June 13, 2014, at J. F. Oberlin University, also in Tokyo. Their 2014 Annual Meeting will be held on November 28-30, 2014, at Kyoto University. Details will be posted on the SRA-Japan mini-site here as they develop.
