Economics and Benefits Analysis

The Society for Risk Analysis Economics and Benefits Analysis Specialty Group (EBASG) focuses on the use of economic analyses to support risk-management decisions. These analyses provide information on the costs, benefits, and other impacts of alternative approaches for reducing risks. Our goals include encouraging better integration between risk assessors, economists, and others involved in risk-management decisions, as well as enhancing the data and methods available for conducting economic analyses.

The Economics and Benefits Analysis Specialty Group (EBASG) brings together researchers, practitioners, policy experts, and emerging professionals interested in how economic analysis can improve the way society understands and manages risk. Our community explores real-world questions at the intersection of risk, economics, policy, and decision-making, from benefit-cost analysis and regulatory policy to cyber risk, public health, infrastructure, expert judgment, and emerging societal risks. A central part of our mission is also to support, mentor, and develop the next generation of economic risk analysts, connecting students and early-career professionals with experienced researchers and practitioners and creating opportunities to build the analytical skills, professional networks, and interdisciplinary perspectives needed in the field. Through engaging webinars, hands-on workshops, mentoring and interdisciplinary collaborations, and activities at the SRA Annual Meeting, members can share their work, learn new methods, build research and professional connections, and help shape how society responds to some of today’s most consequential risk challenges.

Whether you are an economist, risk analyst, policy professional, researcher, or simply interested in bringing stronger economic thinking or benefits analysis to risk decisions, EBASG offers a welcoming community in which to connect, contribute, and get involved.
